Your VPN questions, answered honestly.
What a VPN is, how to use one, what to do on public Wi-Fi, legality in Australia, devices, refunds, speeds — in plain English, no fine print.
1 VPN basics
What is a VPN?
A VPN — Virtual Private Network — creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and the internet. Your traffic goes through one of our servers instead of straight out of your home, cafe or hotel connection. The network you're on, and anyone watching it, can't easily see what you're doing online.
How does a VPN actually work?
When you open the Arresti VPN app and tap Connect, your device builds an encrypted connection to one of our servers. From that point, your traffic is wrapped in encryption between your device and that server. The wider internet sees you as coming from the server's location, not your real one.
What does a VPN do, in one sentence?
It encrypts your internet traffic and changes your apparent location, so the network you're on can't easily snoop and websites see you as connecting from your chosen server.
Why do I need a VPN if I don't have anything to hide?
Privacy isn't about hiding — it's about not handing your browsing history to your internet provider, advertisers, public-Wi-Fi operators and anyone else in the middle for no reason. The same way you draw the curtains at home without being a criminal, a VPN is the curtains for your online life.
Is a VPN the same as antivirus?
No. They solve different problems. Antivirus protects your device from malicious software. A VPN protects your internet traffic from being snooped on, and changes your apparent location. Most people benefit from both.
What's the difference between Arresti VPN and a free VPN?
"Free" VPNs cost money to run, so they make money in other ways — usually by logging your activity, selling your data, or injecting ads. Arresti VPN is a paid service with a strict no-logs policy, which means your subscription is what funds the service, not your data.
2 Using a VPN
How do I use Arresti VPN on my phone?
Download Arresti VPN from the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android). Sign in with the email and password you registered with. Choose a country from the server list and tap Connect. That's it.
How do I use Arresti VPN on my laptop?
Download the app for macOS, Windows or Linux from your Arresti VPN account. Install it, sign in, choose a server, and click Connect. The app will keep running quietly in the background.
When should I turn the VPN on?
The simplest answer: always. Most people turn it on once, set the app to launch with their device, and forget about it. At minimum, turn it on whenever you're using public Wi-Fi or travelling overseas.
Which country should I connect to?
For the fastest speeds at home in Australia, choose an Australian server. When travelling, choose an Australian server to keep your home services working the way you expect. If you need a different exit location for a specific reason, pick that country from the list.
Will the VPN slow my internet?
There's always a small overhead with any VPN, but it's usually small enough that you won't notice. Connect to a server geographically close to you for the best speeds. If a particular server feels slow, switch to another in the same country.
Can I leave the VPN on all the time?
Yes — and most users do. It runs in the background and doesn't get in the way.
Should I use the VPN at home?
Up to you. Your home network is more controlled than public Wi-Fi, but a VPN still hides your traffic from your internet provider and stops services from building a profile based on your real location. Many people leave it on at home as a default.
How do I use a VPN on public Wi-Fi?
Before you join the public network — or as soon as you do — open the Arresti VPN app and connect. Once Connected, your traffic is encrypted between your device and our server, so the network operator and other users on the same network can't see what you're doing.
3 Privacy & security
Is using a VPN legal in Australia?
Yes. Using a VPN is legal in Australia for personal privacy and security. You're still responsible for following the law and the terms of any service you use while connected. Some countries restrict or ban VPN use — if you're travelling, check local rules first.
What does Arresti VPN log about me?
We operate a strict no-logs policy. We don't store your browsing activity. We do hold the account information you provide (your email, subscription status) and basic billing records processed by Stripe. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
What does "no-logs" actually mean?
It means we don't keep records of what you do online — the sites you visit, the apps you use, or the content of your connection. We do hold what we need to run an account (your email and subscription status) and basic billing records processed by Stripe. That's it.
Where are Arresti VPN's servers?
We operate a mix of servers in Australia and overseas. You choose which to connect to. Servers in Australia are subject to Australian law, including obligations under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979. If that matters to you, you can pick an offshore server. We don't pretend Australian servers sit outside Australian law.
What if the Australian government asks for my data?
If we receive a valid Australian legal request, we'd be obliged to respond. Because we don't store browsing activity, there isn't browsing data to hand over. We can be required to disclose account information we do hold (such as the email tied to a subscription). See our Privacy Policy.
Does Arresti VPN make me anonymous?
No. A VPN changes your apparent location and encrypts your traffic, but you're still you on any service where you log in with an account. True anonymity is a much bigger problem and a VPN is only one piece of it.
Can my internet provider see what I do when the VPN is on?
Your internet provider can see that you're connected to an Arresti VPN server and how much data is moving. They can't see which sites you're visiting, what's on them, or what you're sending and receiving inside the tunnel.
What encryption does Arresti VPN use?
Industry-standard encryption between your device and our servers, using modern VPN protocols.
Is Arresti VPN safe for online banking?
Yes. Your banking apps and websites already use HTTPS, and the VPN adds another encrypted layer underneath. Some banks flag overseas logins — if that affects you, choose an Australian server while banking, or tell your bank you're using a VPN.

I'm not very tech-savvy — is Arresti VPN easy to use?
Yes. The app is designed for everyday users, not engineers. You sign in, pick a country, tap Connect. Most people are up and running in under three minutes.
What if the VPN connection drops?
The app reconnects automatically. You don't need to do anything — when your signal comes back or you move to a new network, the tunnel is restored in the background.
