Step 1 — Install OpenVPN
Download and install the OpenVPN software from either our downloads page or directly from openvpn.net.
When the User Account Control (Admin) prompt asks for permission to allow changes to the computer, select Yes.
The OpenVPN Setup wizard will begin. Follow the prompts:
- Click Next >.
- Read and accept the OpenVPN licence agreement.
- Review the components to install — the default configuration is fine — and click Next >.
- Choose an installation location — the default is fine — and click Install.
- When installation is complete, click Next >, then Finish. You don't need to read the readme.
Step 2 — Install the Arresti VPN configuration files
With OpenVPN installed, you now need the configuration profiles that tell it how to connect to Arresti's servers.
Find the latest configuration files on our downloads page. Click Download next to each location you'd like to use.
Find and run the OpenVPN GUI app from your desktop or Start menu. If you see a warning saying you have no connection profiles, ignore it — click OK.
Open the system tray (the small upward arrow on the bottom right of the desktop, near the clock). The OpenVPN GUI runs in the background, represented by a small icon. Right-click that icon and select Import File….
Select one of the .ovpn configuration files you downloaded and click Open. A success window confirms the profile is imported — click OK.
Repeat for each configuration profile you want to use.
Step 3 — Connect Arresti VPN
Right-click the OpenVPN icon in the system tray. You'll see either a Connect option, or a menu of configurations with a Connect option inside each.
Click Connect. Enter your Arresti VPN email and password, tick Save password, and click OK.
The OpenVPN icon in the system tray will turn green when you're connected.
You can verify your connection by visiting a service like whatismyipaddress.com — the location shown should be the server you chose, not your real one.
Step 4 — Disconnect
To disconnect, right-click the OpenVPN icon in the system tray and select Disconnect under your active profile.
There's no log-out step — if you'd like to clear your saved password (for example after changing it in your Arresti account), use Clear Saved Passwords.
